Youth Changing the World
Greta Thunberg
Sweden
Sept. 23, 2019
16 year old Greta demonstrates bodacious courage as she slams members of the U.N. for caring more about money and “fairytales of eternal economic growth” than collapsing ecosystems, mass extinctions and people suffering due to climate change. She inspired the youth across the world to conduct a mass peaceful protest on behalf of our planet.
Seven Children Who Changed the World by their Actions or Examples
Eight People Who Changed The World As Kids
“These child visionaries — boys and girls who have changed our world through their good actions or examples. Some have mobilized millions for a good cause. Others have moved us simply by their generous and hopeful view of humanity. Here are eight young people who have made an impressive mark on our world.”
Cleaning Up The Ocean
19-year-old Boyan Slat combines environmentalism, entrepreneurism and technology to tackle global issues of sustainability. He developed an ocean cleanup array that could remove 7,250,000 tons of plastic from oceans.
Small Living Designs
“Students in the Renewable Energy and Ecological Design (REED) program at Vermont’s Green Mountain College just made us all look lazy by designing and building a tiny home that’s part wooden chestnut and part stained-glass cathedral”
Youth Addressing Climate Change
Our Children’s Trust
Youth filed their constitutional climate lawsuit, called Juliana v. U.S., against the U.S. government in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon in 2015.
Their complaint asserts that, through the government’s affirmative actions that cause climate change, it has violated the youngest generation’s constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property, as well as failed to protect essential public trust resources.
