Sustainability

Sustainability creates the circumstances whereby we are not  harming our environment or depleting natural resources and thereby support long-term ecological balance. We now face numerous serious consequences of unrestrained degradation and over consumption of our planet’s resources.  Awareness and inspired action are needed in to protect and preserve them.

.Isabelle Allende

“What kind of world do we want? This is a fundamental question that most of us are asking. Does it make sense to participate in the existing world order? We want a world where life is preserved, and the quality of life is enriched for everybody, not only for the privileged…I want to make this world good. Not better. But to make it good! Why not? It is possible. Look around…all this knowledge, energy, talent, and technology. Let’s get off our fannies, roll up our sleeves and get to work passionately in creating an almost perfect world.”

Preserving Biodiversity

Preserving Biodiversity

Biodiversity

Greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all life forms. Each species, no matter how small, all have an important role to play and contribute to the overall wellness of our planet. Healthy biodiversity, among other things, facilitates the breakdown and absorption of pollution, boosts ecosystem productivity, contribute to climate stability and help the planet withstand and recover from a variety of disasters.

The current extinction rate is 100x that what it was before humans evolved. Two species have gone extinct every day since 2010. A new scientific study has identified the protected areas most critical to preventing extinctions of the world’s mammals, birds and amphibians.

Scientists have identified the world’s most irreplaceable protected areas. This international collaborative analysis is providing practical advice for improving the effectiveness of protected areas in conserving global biodiversity. Seventy-eight sites comprising 137 protected areas in 34 countries have been identified as exceptionally irreplaceable. Together, they harbor the majority of the populations of more than 600 birds, amphibians, and mammals, half of which are globally threatened.

Sustainability, Deep Ecology & the Sacred

Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

“As our world stumbles to the brink of ecological collapse, the “tipping point” of irreversible climate change, sustainability has become a vital issue. But in order to consider the question of sustainability, it is important to begin with the question…who or what is being sustained?
