Food and water are essential not only our survival but also to the quality of our life experience. Depending on ones health, weight, activity level, genetics and environmental issues, a person can go with out food for anywhere from 20-70 days if one has water. Without water, a person can survive up to a week. Survival aside, the quality and amount of food that we ingest is one of the largest influences on our overall quality of life effecting our general state of health and our present moment moods, strength, endurance for example.
The use of GMO’s, preservatives, additives, antibiotics in animals, nutrient depletion in our soil and general lack of nutrition and empty calories present in many people’s diet, are health has been seriously impacted.
Fortunately, awareness is dawning.
Below you will see how.

Meat
Meat
Although many choose not to eat meat for health and animal rights reasons as well as concern about overconsumption of resources, many do still choose to eat meat. Recognizing the unhealthy conditions that have been created through mass production of farm animals, some are beginning to choose differently. Without the use of antibiotics and allowing animals freedom to exist outside the confines of mass production warehouses, these emerging farming practices are taking hold.
Wild Idea Buffalo
Buffalo or Bison is lower in calories, fat, and cholesterol than chicken or fish and higher in protein than beef. It is nutrient-dense, high in antioxidant Omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins. But, in choosing your bison, choose free range. This particular company says it’s bison offers 3x the omega 3’s of other non-range raised bison, and the animals are humanely treated.

Water
Water
Our body in composed of around 60% water. The water in our body aids in digestion and in maintaining normal bowel function, the absorption and transportation of nutrients, transports waste products in out of cells and through our circulation to the kidneys, carries toxins to be filtered by our kidneys. On a more functional level, it energizes our muscles, keeps our skin healthy, and helps maintain our body temperature.
However, 1 in 9, (780 million people) on the planet lack access to clean water.
In developed countries, our concerns center more on purifying the toxins that have leached into our water supply. According to Dr. Mercola: “When you don’t have a filter, you become a filter.” Bottled water has become hugely popular but is most often stored in plastic which carries its own risks.
Our body needs pure, clean water.

Filters VOCs, inorganic materials, heavy metals, bacteria and viruses and more. Change filter every 15-20 years for 2 people on average. Reasonably priced.
“Through diligent testing and research, we have proven that Berkey water filters remove viruses to purification standards, pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites to undetectable levels, and harmful or unwanted chemicals to below detectable levels. Until these test results were made public, words like non-detectable were seldom if ever used to describe the abilities of a water filter to remove harmful pollutants. The filters in the Berkey system not only took the industry by storm with these unheard of benefits but also added the ability to reduce toxic heavy metals such as lead and mercury without removing the beneficial and nutritional minerals needed to support a healthy body and mind. “

New Paradigms in Food Production
New Paradigms in Food Production
According to the website, A Well Fed World, “Theoretically we can feed nine billion people, but not when vast amounts of food are fed to animals to produce meat and other animal-based foods. Animals are extremely inefficient converters of food… that is, they eat much more food than they produce. Animal-based foods (such as meat, dairy, and eggs) are highly resource-intensive and require much more food, land, water and energy than eating plant-based foods directly.”
“A majority of the “extra” food is redistributed away from those who need it most and used as animal feed to produce meat for those who can afford it most. As such, animal-based foods are a form of overconsumption and redistribution that reduces the amount of available food and increases the price of basic food staples.”

Aeroponics
Is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil. Plants grow faster, bigger, stronger, and are more disease resistant.
Agrihouse
Discovery Channel interveiw on Aeroponic Technology for the growing of fresh food including wheat and more.
Aquaponics
Combines hydroponics (the cultivation of plants in water) with aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as fish or prawns). The excretions from the fish which are nutrient rich are fed to the plants. The water is then recirculated back to the fish, cleansed. The fish can be used as food and the plants do not need to be fed as they do in a regular hydroponics garden.
Nor Cal Aquaponics
“Aquaponics is one of the most productive and sustainable food production systems in the world! It is a combination of Aquaculture (farming fish) and Hydroponics (growing plants with out soil) in which both fish and plants benefit from one another! The production levels of Aquaculture and Hydroponics combined far exceed that of either system alone”
Friendly Aquaponics
The world’s most sustainable food production system.
Hydroponics
Is when plants are grown in a water and nutrient solution, without soil. Hydroponics allows a gardener to grow plants, fruits and vegetables in a more efficient and productive manner… and with less labor, time and gardening area needed. The advantages of Hydroponic gardens are that there are no weeds eliminating the need for spraying, less water usage, using two thirds less water than soil gardening, higher yields, no need for yard space (can be done indoors), better taste and higher in nutritional value, year round growing therefore not dependent on weather and it eliminates all the soil-borne diseases. Being in a more controlled area, pest control is drastically diminished.
The Future of Gardening is Growing… Without Soil
NASA Self-Contained Salad System
Imagine a kitchen appliance that automatically produces 12 heads of fresh lettuce and salad greens, every week, without soil, under artificial light… right next to your dishwasher.
Alternative Food Sources
There is the potential to utilize insect protein as a solution to the overconsumption of freshwater in our industrialized agriculture sector, which consumes as much as 92% of all freshwater we (humans) use around the world. The numbers are striking…insects convert grain and grass into edible protein as much as 10 times more efficiently as cows and pigs, and are both rich in key nutrients such as omega-3 acids and low in fat to boot. Here is an example of a company making a protein bar from crickets.

Chipoltes
“In the world of fast food restaurants, Chipotle Mexican Grill stands out for its commitment to “Food with Integrity.” This means serving foods made with local, sustainably produced—and often organic—vegetables and beans and meats from naturally raised—not factory farm—animals. In the past year, Chipotle has gone further by committing to serving foods with non-GMO integrity; foods made from ingredients that are not genetically modified.”
